Demolition of illegal structures around MASINDE MULIRO STADIUM (Kanduyi) is set to commence soon. This time round the Ministry of Interior & National Administration and the department of Lands, Urban & Physical Planning in Bungoma County will oversee the exercise in preparation to hosting over 20,000 Madaraka Day guests on 1st June 2024.

These must-do demolitions are scheduled to start immediately after a marking-off exercise of illegal structures by a multi-agency team this week will create more space for parking as well as recreation areas. It will also create space for military preparations scheduled to start in April at the stadium.

According to my source, Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Ababu Namwamba indicated during his recent visit that Bungoma will host African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 if this stadium is completed to standard in good time. Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will jointly host the AFCON games scheduled for 2027.
