DOMESTIC VIOLENCE REPORT GETS A MAN CIRCUMCISED AT CHWELE MARKET
An uncircumcised husband who yester night beat his wife was today circumcised at Chwele market -Bungoma at 2pm after his angry wife reported him to her parents who in-turn unleashed youthful relatives and family friends to go and confirm the allegations. Upon getting hold of him, undressing and confirming that indeed he was uncircumcised they then frog matched him to Chwele market where they for the better part of the morning walked him around as they sang Bukusu circumcision songs (khuminya). At about 1pm they walked the 45 year old to the river where they prepared according to Bukusu traditions to to come face the knife, an exercise that was complete at about 2:45pm
Witnesses say during the Khuminya exercise around Kenya’s second largest horticultural market the man collected an excess of Kshs. 100,000 from businesspersons and passersby.
Bukusus are notorious for using circumcision as a way of punishing those living amongst them and/or are not circumcised and/or those uncircumcised and seem to behave badly… In this case the man has been sufficiently disciplined.
This is also a lesson to the violent men not to assault their wives and certainly not to trust women to keep their secrets
