A multi-agency operation conducted at Bungoma County headquarters on Friday 21st June 2024 saw 16 officers arrested for using fake documents to secure jobs. The operation had been advised by a long verification process that started way back involving Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA), Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The Police therefore hatched a plan that would have all the suspects arrested without raising an eyebrow midway. The office of Bungoma County Secretary was therefore tasked to convene a ‘fake’ meeting for all ‘fakers’. They were required to attend a meeting in the County Secretary’s boardroom on 21st June 2024 at 9am without fail.

On arrival each invited individual was required to show the invitation SMS which was used to confirm that indeed the individual was among the most wanted. It’s at this point that one was asked to switch off his or her phone. From 9am the operation was concluded at 1pm and a Police truck was availed to carry the suspects and their means of transport (bikes; for those who rode bikes to the meeting)

Clinical officers, lab technicians, administrators are some of those arrested.

Ikuweikuwe.com has further learnt that fourty five had been listed for arrest in this operation but some did not turn up. Police are therefore treating them as fugitives. More employees are still under investigations and may be nabbed in the coming days once investigations are concluded.
