Chwele market came to standstill today 7th June 2023 morning following a fatal accident that claimed three lives and was according to sources blamed on the Police who are accused of engaging in a high-speed chasing of a rider said to be transporting illicit brew (Chang’aa) and had disobeyed Police orders to stop. For hours there was a standoff between Police and wananchi as the men in blue were required to take responsibility to ensure justice for the dead. They were blocked from collecting the bodies.

CHWELE POLICE STATION
SUBJECT: FATAL ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT – OB.NO. 15/7/6/2023 AT 1140HRS.
This occurred today 7th June 2023 at about 1130hrs and reported to station at 1140hrs at CHWELE BRIDGE along Chwele – Kimilili road. It happened that unknown rider was riding a motorcycle registration no. KMFV 058K TVS from Chwele direction heading towards Kimilili general direction at on reaching at the location of accident, he tried to overtake another motorcycle and in the process, he collided head on with another motorcycle registration no. KMFX 603A TVS that was from the opposite direction ridden by unknown rider and had a female pillion passenger. Due to the impact, both riders and the pillion passenger died on the spot. Bodies are being removed to Bungoma County Referral hospital morgue for autopsy as the motorcycles are to be towed to Chwele Police Station pending inspection. Cause code 10 preferred.
