ADDRESS OF HOPE
Members of the County Assembly of Busia concluded debate on Governor H.E Sospeter Ojaamong’s State of the County Address with optimism that the County is headed in the right direction.
“It’s the Address of Hope,” Hon. Job Oteba (Angurai East Ward) said as he lauded the Governor for initiating many development projects in the county.
He said the Health sector has realized massive transformation with modern facilities installed in virtually all health institutions across the county. Other sectors including water, Agriculture, Infrastructure, Trade and many others have also realized rapid development.

However, Hon Oteba urged the Executive to address the issue of Non Communicable Diseases by allocating resources to contain it instead of allowing the donor community to fund the directorate.
” About 50 per cent of beds in major health institutions are occupied by patients with NCDs such as blood pressure, diabetes and cancer among others. Such diseases can be avoided by talking to people to change their lifestyles,” he said.
The MCA said there is urgent need to embark on revenue streams which are doing very well like sand harvesting which can raise Sh200 million annually instead of putting much resources on streams which can raise a paltry Sh2m like mama mboga.
Hon Oteba said the assurance by the Governor in his address to solve the issue of the water rig is appreciated, noting that drilling of more boreholes will improve water coverage in wards which experience water scarcity.
Other members who had earlier made their contributions and lauding the Governor’s address included David Luyemba (Mayenje Ward), Bernard Papa ( Malaba Central) and Florence Ologi (nominated).
