JUMBO CHARGE members started arriving in camp on Friday, 16th Oct. 2020 with afew making it because of rain and the terrain. It took 8 cars from Uasin Gishu County participants 13 hours having commenced their journey at 3.30pm only to arrive 8:15am in the morning. The JUMBO CHARGE rescue team were busy night and day doing what they do best as cars kept streamimg in from 2am. That Saturday rescue mission went on the whole Saturday till 10pm when no other car could make it up, 9 cars had to be left on the road the entire night and by Sunday morning we had 13 cars yet to make it to camp but they all made it up by 4pm with a record number of 21 cars to camp and 14 cars parked 4 kilometers away.

Organizers had to reschedule tree planting exercise from Saturday to Monday, 19th Oct because of fatigue, breakdowns and rains

Sponsors of the event included;

  • Rt. Hon. Speaker of the Senate bought seedlings worth Kshs. 50,000 through his P.A Sudi Wandabusi who graced the event but didn’t make it to the camp, he had to walk all the way up to as he watched cars trying to make it up for hours.
  • TransNzoia Environment and Natural Resources CECM Hon. Andrew Masinde together with Tourism CECM Aggrey Chemonges from Trans Nzoia county participated by donating seedlings. They stayed with us for hours.

On Monday morning the team headed to Kaberwa Kenya forest for a tree planting exercise where JUMBO CHARGE has been allocated 50 acres for phase 1. The engines roared from 10am but got to Kaberwa Forest station 17 kilometers away at 6:30pm, a section of 4kms from Laboot was now worse as it had rained the entire night.  Therefore, organisers had to reschedule tree planting to another date although 3,100 holes had already been dug.

Fans arriving;

We appreciate Senate Speaker Rt. Hon. Ken Lusaka who promised us more seedlings on top of the ones he bought us and Hon CECM members from Trans Nzoia county for playing a big role towards conservation of Mt Elgon forest. It’s nevertheless unfortunate that our own Bungoma County government had no representative and therefore offer zero assistance despite being invited officially
JUMBO CHARGE is a social event organised by Bungoma County, a motor challenge geared towards wildlife conservation and in particular the Elephant (Jumbo) and Mt. Elgon Ecosystem as the habitat. The event through participation of individuals and corporates is aimed at heightening sensitisation to the local communities and affected institutions on the importance of preserving the Elephant and the natural habitat around the mountain area.

Dec 12th 2020 JUMBO charge will pitch at Turkana County as a CSR programme before heading Uasin Gishu County during the Easter Holidays sponsored by the county govt…

#iKUWEiKUWE corner;

Bungoma County Environment, Natural resources, Water and Tourism CECM is only interested in deals where he can talk %ages in contracts… the department is a cash cow for lack of a better word. Then you find then enlisting the 4×4 Jumbo Charge as one of their achievements

About 69 million allocated for tree planting exercise went up the smoke, then Hon. Luke Opwora asked a question in the assembly but the executive gave no substantive response(s)…. Pesa ilikunywa maji…

In the current budget; There is an 80 million European Union funding for purchase of tree seed and seedlings now but still the county sees no reason to support a tree planting exercise not even by donating seedlings… Bungoma county should prioritize partnering with entities like JUMBO CHARGE instead of thinking of commissions all the time.
