Counties are currently grappling with a huge financial gap that has been occasioned by failure by Treasury to disburse funds to counties. Workers have therefore been hard hit with February salaries unusually delaying way into mid-March a scenario that has forced the County government of Bungoma to duly notify its staff on the unfortunate delay.
On 14th Mar 2023 Bungoma County government did notify its workforce that;
We note with regret that salaries for the month of February 2023 have not been paid to date. The reason being that we have not received our quarterly allocation from the National Government. This is the case for all Counties Countrywide.
However, we are making alternative arrangements to have the February salaries paid as soon as possible.

As the delay persists, workers have desperately sort for alternative means of funding that has led them straight to the shylock’s doorsteps. Shylocks who otherwise usually come in handy are nevertheless very ruthless when one defaults and this has been witnessed severally as defaulters are shamed on social media, gatherings and even some have been arrested by Police.
My rat indicates that more than seventeen defaulters mostly junior staff have found themselves in Police custody as their initial lifesavers turned tormentors (shylock) refused to reason, stuck to the initial agreements and therefore invited Police to assist recover their money following defaults.
ikuweikuwe.com has nevertheless learnt that Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka on his part has held a series of meetings with banks in a bid to get funds that would help bridge gaps in the meantime.
