A conman today walked into an Mpesa shop near Jamia Mosque in Bungoma purporting to have identified a Sufuria for his lovely wife but could not do so because:
1. He didn’t know whether his wife would like it so he needed to call her first.
2. He could not reach his wife because his phone was off and therefore requested that it be charged
As the shop attendant put the conman’s phone on charge the smartly dressed dude asked to use the attendant’s phone which was granted.
In a typical wash-wash way he instead of making a call, chose to save (added) a different number onto the shop owner’s contact (he seemed to know the shop owner’s contact as saved on that phone)… In short: He merged the contact such that even the new (conman’s) number picked the real owner’s image
This act was meant to confuse the attendant into believing that a communication that will come thru the conman’s contact to be the shop owner’s.
The new number (under the shop owner’s name) then texted directing money to be sent to that very number. After a while a lady using the con’s contact called ordering the young attendant to act swiftly on her orders
Unfortunate for the lazy cons the attendant had smelled something fishy since the owner of the shop’s contact had a thread of previous communication(s) but this one had no previous chats.
