LETTER: Siboti residents turn to media, Well-wishers as County fails to provide a precious commodity

Hi bro Eddu.

Am Sisungo Sammy from NASIMBO village. Siboti location, Siboti ward in Bumula Constituency.

Nasimbo Water Pump serves a vast community, about 10000 houses holds, and Pupils and teachers of Nasimbo primary school.

The village has a water pump that used to serve residents within and the neighboring areas with the precious commodity but unfortunately developed mechanical problems about 6 months ago escalating the already bad situation of insufficient clean water supply,

The pump was built at Nasimbo Primary on Kimwanga – Siboti road by the County government of Bungoma to serve Nasimbo region (Kimwanga to Siboti, Nangata to Masielo). A local group was tasked to manage the pump but it has been unable to get the County maintenance support leading to total collapse of service provision.

Long queues, unprotected/untreated water and insecurities that come with the distance from respective homes are some of the dangers that have emerged since the breakdown six months. On top of high risks of getting water born diseases, this water problem has threatened to break many families as Wives are forced to leave home as early as 3am to be the earliest bird at the sole water spring which in most cases would see a que of over 50 people at one time.

Efforts by the water management team to contain the situation and bring back normalcy has always hit a rock forcing residents to always wake up at the wee hours of the day (as early as 3 -4am) just to fetch several litres of the precious commodity from an unprotected water Spring.

We are appealing to you to help us bring this issue to public attention in search of a long lasting solution.

We request our neighbors, friends, the clergy, civil servants, farmers, politicians to come rescue us from this sad situation.

We are currently as a community in the process of raising funds to repair the pump ourselves. So far we have managed Kshs. 25,000 out of the targeted Kshs. 100,000

The County government has not been of help despite our numerous cries as our Leaders looks the other way as we suffer under their watch.
