“WE SHALL TAKE THE HEALTH SECTOR TO GREATER HEIGHTS” – BUSIA GOVERNOR
Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has reiterated his government’s commitment towards enhancing health services to residents despite numerous challenges affecting the health sector.
Speaking at the Busia County Referral Hospital during a consultative meeting with health officers in-charge of different health facilities in the County, Ojaamong acknowledged that the issue of finances has been the greatest limitation in delivery of required services to the people.
H.E Ojaamong said most of the pertinent issues including pending bills and wages of casual workers raised by the health officials have been factored in the supplementary budget.
“We are doing well in Busia compared to other Counties that are experiencing numerous challenges. Some counties like Kisii have excelled because of the support from National Government and donors. But we are going to take advantage of the available resources to improve delivery of health care services,” he said.
He said his administration will be on the forefront in ensuring regular remittance of money to health facilities, stressing the need for the accounting officers in charge to exercise prudence in funds utilization.
The Governor revealed that a number of projects in health and sanitation department are complete and fully furnished.
“Let us now go back to service delivery to ensure smaller facilities become referrals,” stated the Governor.
The Governor also led the officials in observing a moment of silence in respect to the departed senior surgeon Dr. Daniel Alushula who died of Coronavirus (Covid-19) complications, where he emphasized that his government is committed towards providing Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to the healthcare workers as they discharge their duties.
The County boss commended the healthcare workers for their commitment in serving residents during this Covid-19 pandemic.
Also present were Chief Officers Dr Isaac Omeri (Medical Services), Jonathan Ino (Public Health), Director Medical Services Janerose Ambuchi, Sub County Medical Officers of Health and the County Health Management Team(CHMT) members.
