Following a series of concerns raised by ikuweikuwe.com on congestion at Webuye Isolation ward and by extension the suspension of Covid-19 testing at the facility on Monday 26th Oct 2020 and the entire county on Thursday 29th Oct 2020 due to lack of testing kits and reagents… The CECM flanked by his Chief officer and Covid-19 made a low key press statement that was conveniently so attended by a selected few in the media industry. The County officials had this to say;
Dr. Antony Walela ~ CECM Health and Sanitation;
- Private hospitals have no capacity to test for Covid-19
- They rely on county govt to collect samples and send them to KEMRI for testing
- Schools just like homes to set aside a dormitory to accommodate Covid-19 +ve but asymptomatic cases and/or will transport those pupils to their homes for a homebased care
- Testing kits and reagents are supplied by the National government
- County govt to partner with National govt to reinforce;
- No mask no service
- Social distancing esp. on gatherings
- Businesses to proving running water and soap for its clients
The County is therefore waiting for legal gazette notice to enforce the above
Patrick Wandili ~ CO Health and Sanitation;
- The County will use County reinforcement officers and Police to ensure Covid-19 guidelines are adhered to
Moses Wangusi ~ County Public Health officer and Covid-19 coordinator in Bungoma tabled statistics as follows;
- Tested persons; 3,426
- Positive cases; 364 (isolation and homebased)
- Dead cases; 6
- Patients attended via Home Based care; 129
- Students; 17
-
- Friends School Kamusinga 11
- Kimilili high school 6
Challenges the County is experiencing (just like others) with testing kits / reagents;
- Surge of Covid-19 cases
- Provided by the National govt. for standard uniformity
- Gazetted testing centers;
-
- KEMRI
- The National Public Health Laboratory
No reagents available limiting our ability to take any Covid-19 patients courtesy normal routine surveillance
The County has therefore opted to take in critical cases only that are in hospitals and not in villages
4 Covid-19 patients unprocedurally discharged from Webuye Isolation ward
The County government has starting 5th Nov 2020 embarked on decongesting Webuye Isolation ward by UNPROCEDURALLY sending home 4 of its patients who had been there for over two weeks with others scheduled to be released in the coming days. Its nevertheless shocking to note that the four used public means to their homes despite the fact that they left the facility UNTESTED and therefore were medically NOT cleared. Its common practice that before a patient leaves an Isolation camp/ward a second test is done to clear him/her
#iKUWEiKUWE Corner;
It’s actually a HORRIFIC decision made by this County to release 4 Covid-19 patients into the world knowing very well they have not taken the 2nd and possibly last test before being medically cleared to mingle with the public… AGAIN, if it was a must that they had to give in to social media pressure wouldn’t it have been prudent to organize transport for them to their respective destinations with a view of inspecting and making sure contacting others is at minimal?
So we are told that 213 million is a conditional grant that’s meant for among other things fueling vehicles (ambulances) for covid-19 engagements… How come you opt to save the money at the expense of exposing the public in whose interest you are holding these funds????
These are individuals who have been in contact with those patients who arrived recently, how sure are you that they have not been re-infected before they left? If they are Covid-19 +ve by the time they left the isolation ward… Are we prepared to deal with the consequences?
Governor Wangamati should remember … Trump is having a rough time coz he mismanaged Covid-19
