RESIDENTS OPEN UP ROADS AFTER LEADERS SHOW LITTLE INTEREST
Residents of Sango-A area in Luyekhe village ~ West Sang’alo ward have taken it upon themselves to open up roads in their otherwise neglected area following the need to improve the road network to necessitate easy access to health services, markets, transportation of farm produce/input… etc
On 26-8-2020 through the invitation of Wandili, while working on the road residents received a rare guest who lives in Switzerland but is born and bred in Bungoma town Dr. Evelyne Wamalwa. Being a motivational speaker the visibly delighted doctor encouraged the group to continue filling in the leadership gap in a bid to better lives as opposed to waiting for elected leaders to come do it for them. On girls she asked them to concentrate on studies as they look forward to greater things ahead. Boys were asked to look after their ‘sisters’ and not to be part of their failures.

Residents asked Dr. Wamalwa to spare time and talk to the youths on morals, education and general aspects of life… A request she granted asking them to set a date within two weeks for a more organized session with youth in the area before she flies out.
The team leader Pastor Jamlick Wandili who is a Counseling, Divinity and HRM specialist working as a Social Welfare officer at Bungoma correctional facility (Prisons) informs #iKUWEiKUWE Updates that the incomplete exercise had so far taken 6 days putting together about 40 youths, 10 old men and 15 old women. It costs 3,500/= on meals per day. They expect to finish the 1st road on about 2 weeks.
Residents have identified 3 roads for upgrade;
- Luyekhe/Sang’alo road – Siumbwa at river Kitinda – about 2.5 kms
- From Mzee Chai’s home – Kitinda/Luyekhe bridge – about 1.5 kms
- From Wambulwa’s – Kitinda/Sang’alo road
Chris Masakhalia, a Luyekhe resident based in Dubai who has been the main financier informs #iKUWEiKUWE Updates of his desire to see the road motorable for they seem to have trouble accessing basic needs. The former GSU man reckons that the problem with local leaders is they listen too much on retrogressive rumors and therefore see competition in anyone who tries to complement their efforts as he is trying to do. He indicated that before he flies back to Dubai he will use his free time in assisting the community he has grown up and therefore asked everyone including the area leadership to embrace the CSR exercise
Speaking to #iKUWEiKUWE Updates Ambrose Sasaka Chai a youthful resident who was leading his peers in the Corporate Social Responsibility exercise that involved the young and old encouraged the area MCA Hon. Godfrey Zeth Mukhwana to feel free to join forces with them and assist in improving from where they have reached noting that they are not keen to fight him over anything but want to partner to improve their lives.
Ambrose Sasaka Chai’s voice;
Contacted; West Sang’alo MCA, Hon. Godfrey Mukhwana heaped praise to the residents saying…
“I take note of and appreciate the determination displayed by Sango-A residents and by extension residents of the entire West sang’alo ward. I see Women groups and Bodabodas joining hands to do roads throughout the ward in a bid to bridge the gap following the heavy rains that rendered our roads impassable.
Despite poor funding from government… Residents have pulled together to upgrade roads in Bulongo, Kamba, Sang’alo – Catholic area, chemululuchi bridge, Kitinda junction towards Lwanda and now Sango-A… etc
I want to assure residents of Sango-A that Yes! I get some negative stories from the area but they will not deter me from partnering with the likes of Chris to improve the standards of the ward at large and/or from delivering my manifesto to West Sang’alo residents. I concentrated much on the major roads in the last financial year but will expand our scope this time round following the increment of Ward projects allocation from 13 to 17 million.
They will witness improved roads this financial year.
Nawashukuru sana”
