  • #iKUWEiKUWE reminders on previous cases

Bungoma County Governor Wycliffe Wangamati is a man who loves music, good music I mean… the likes of Mukhalekha Wikilifuuu Wangamatiii (don’t abandon Wycliffe Wangamati) hit-song by Steve Kay and Chapa Ilale which was his official campaign tune. Wangamati has ever since empowered Steve Kay (without mentioning how) thanks to the musician’s superior management team. Both steve and Chapa Ilale have nevertheless occasionally been victims of exploitation by Wangamati’s handlers just like Nekesa and others

Stan Wepundi the PA to governor Wangamati and Jose the Communications officer are on the spot for failing to honor a pledge they made to Nekesa Khalayi the artist who sang Wangamati’s current favourite song WANGA WIRE. Nekesa Khalayi took to social media with a post that has now been pulled down due to threats from Stan and the usual executive goons, a post in which she ranted accusing the govt. of using her song without paying for her effort.

It was the County govt’s idea to do the PARODY (song)… Stan and Jose first landed on Prezda to do the song but were not satisfied with his work leading them to Nekesa Khalayi who delivered the piece to Stan and Jose’s satisfaction… She demanded 25,000/= but they finally agreed on 15,000/= after the County officials managed to successfully bargain downwards.

The artist reached out to #iKUWEiKUWE Movement thru her friend with a desire to have Wangamati informed of what’s going on…

#iKUWEiKUWE Updates take;

  • Artists should acquire copyrights to their content before releasing. This makes it easier to seek legal redress should there be a breach of contract
  • As much as its almost impractical for upcoming artists… It’s important to sign contracts with your clients
  • Nekesa Khalayi

… Kazi yenu ni kutumia tu wasanii na kuwatupa apo kwendeni uko bure kabisa …

  • The County govt. should CEASE exploitation of young artists… Here are some of the previously documented unfair treatment of artists;
    • Governor’s dinner at Tourist when Wangamati hosted the Lake region governor’s where Stan had to be handcuffed by Mulash after he colluded with other Wangamati’s partisan staff to ‘sit-on’ allowances meant for governor’s security and artists… still artists were paid peanuts as opposed to the agreed fee.
    • Chapa Ilale produced a song for AJIRA launch graced by CS Mucheru at governor’s office… from the agreed 300k he was paid 5k even after performing at the event. he had to make numerous trips to Wangamati’s office before the CO in the office of the governor added 15k
    • Covid-19 Awareness; Artists were duped into agreeing to perform at a cost of 25k  per day for 3 months (two performances per week). They only performed for 2 weekend in turns. The rest of the money was pocketed by the usual culprits
      • Take note; Each artist was required to have a full band, pay for transport, equipment and of course allowances for the band out of the 25k… They signed numerous forms without a header,  Money disappeared
    • Choffuri (comedian) had an out-of-this-world photo session with Governor Wangamati and DG Ngome in the Governor’s office (2018) with a promise from the governor that the county govt. would empower him financially as well as accord him performances… Choffuri is still waiting this July 2020
    • The governor’s handlers have developed the habit of underpaying artists whenever they contract them to perform at govt events
    • Female artists are forced to hold late night meetings in guesthouses supposedly to seal a deal(s)… those who refuse are taken round in circles. While their male counterparts must agree to a commission for the county employee(s) organising the event(s)

WANGA FIRE; The song in question,,,, The song Governor Wangamati UNSUSPECTINGLY danced to at Tongaren on 4th July 2020 after his security detail attacked an MCA causing bodily harm. He was later chased in subsequent meetings

BELOW are SOME screenshots of chats between Stan and artist Nekesa Khalayi… and those of her communication with her friend about the same issue;

WHEN WILL BUNGOMA COUNTY GOVT. STOP MISUSING ARTISTS AND INSTEAD NURTURE THEM?
