During today’s Friday, July 3, 2020 Munaa village burial (kwa Walela) in Kanduyi – Bungoma, a Bukembe East aspirant Caleb Wanjala and his close alley Joseph Murule joined the area aMCA Joram Wanjala and other mourners in condoling with the family. In his address Murule reminded the area MCA Hon Joram Wanjala that as residents they are marking his performance and will therefore tally at the end of the term amid cheers from the mourners. The MCA who seemed disturbed by the statement took to the floor and asked the mourners if they were aware of his “good” performance… but mourners heckled him in return. At this time Caleb, Murule and a few of their supporters were exiting the function.
As the funeral progressed the remaining Caleb’s supporters were attacked as they left the funeral by machete and mipini wedging goons who are said to have been hired by the area MCA
The attackers have been identified as;
Jimmy Masibo, Evans Simiyu, Gibson Nyongesa and Erick Juma nalwanga (owner of the house where attackers emerged from)
The victims who sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Nzoia medical Centre are;
Sammy, Wanjala, Stephen Khaemba and Emmanuel
Caleb Wanjala condemned the incident and called upon the police to move with speed to arrest the goons together with their financier. He encouraged the area MCA to embrace political tolerance as well as calling on his supporters not to revenge the attack
Hon. Jorum Wanjala in his reaction claimed that he was not heckled but was blocked from exiting as he left the funeral which prompted his boys to swing into action to defend themselves and the MCA… He also questions where the injured come from saying they are likely to be from Kabuchai constituency
