CABINET SECRETARY FOR SPORTS AFFIRMS NATIONAL GOVERNMENT’S SUPPORT FOR DEVOLUTION AT THE OFFICIAL OPENING OF 4TH EDITION CASA GAMES IN NAKURU
The official opening of County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) games 4th edition was graced by Cabinet Secretary for Sports Hon. Ababu Namwamba at Nakuru Show Ground. In his address, he affirmed national government’s support for CASA games stating that sports is the greatest unifier which projects a singular voice for the counties across the nation.
Hon Namwamba noted that the event was coinciding with the country’s 10th anniversary for Devolution, acknowledging the positive impact devolution had made while challenging the key players to aim towards strengthening devolution through elevation of County Assemblies to the level of the National Assembly.
He assured the County Assemblies of President William Ruto’s commitment to enhance devolution, stating that it would be the President’s pride in seeing devolution thrive in Kenya during his tenure. He advised them to seek autonomy for County Assemblies to be able to control, plan and deploy their own resources.
Deputy Secretary County Assembly Forum (CAF) and MCA Sitikho Ward in Bungoma County, Hon Grace Sundukwa stated that the aim of the games was to foster unity and collaboration. She called upon participants from diverse Counties to embrace the true spirit of CASA which was interacting, creating bonds and memories for future reference.
Chairman CAF who is also Speaker Elgeyo Marakwet Hon. Philemon Sabulei said CAF is committed to pushing for the interests of Hon. MCAs and Speakers of the County Assemblies and emphasized that there will be no descending voices on the same.
Hon. MCAs from the County Assemblies across the County distanced themselves from the recently released Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) circular and called upon National government to address their concerns.
The theme for this year’s CASA games is inculcating the integration and social interactions through sports and diverse cultures.
Present at event was the Speaker of the County Assembly of Bungoma Hon. Emmanuel Situma and the Clerk Mr. Charles Wafula, the Hon MCAs and all members of staff who were dressed in full regalia in readiness to represent the institution in the various disciplines. ENDs.
