RAILA DISTRIBUTES RELIEF FOOD TO FLOOD VICTIMS IN BUDALANGI
The former Prime Minister, Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga who is also the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, has donated foodstuff to the people of Budalangi who are affected by floods after Lake Kanyaboli broke its banks.
Odinga donated flour, cooking oil, sugar, rice and bar soaps among other goodies.
He called upon Bunyala residents to invest more in agricultural sector to boost the economy of Bunyala and Busia county at large.
“The cost of living is high and today I am here to encourage you to work hard, the issue of floods will be alleviated by working hand in hand with other leaders,” he said.
Busia Governor, H.E Dr Paul Nyongesa Otuoma said that by investing more in blue economy, and especially in Bunyala, Busia county has the potential of being bread basket in the whole of east Africa.
“The Lower Nzoia project will help in revitalization of the economy, we shall employ more extension officers and we will also ensure that Busia is removed from statistics that identify Busia as one of the poorest counties. We will do this by investing more in agriculture and value addition,” he revealed.
Governor Otuoma also expressed his commitment to control malaria by stating that health officials will be using drones for aerial spraying of uninhabited areas. He also stated that treatment of drinking water is ongoing in order to avert waterborne diseases among them cholera.
The event was also attended by Siaya Governor, H.E James Orengo, Busia County Assembly Speaker, Engineer Fred Odilo, , area Members of Parliament (MP), Hon. Raphael Wanjala, Leader of Majority, Hon. Josephat Wandera, Members of County Assembly (MCAs) and County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) among other guests.
