BUSIA BUS PARK SET FOR RENOVATION IN A BID TO BOOST TRANSPORT, TRADE
The main bus terminus in Busia town is set for a facelift as plans to renovate the park commence.
The County Government of Busia through the Department of Lands, Housing and Urban Development said the project is expected to be complete by August this year, four months after commencement of the project.
The Municipality of Busia Manager, Ken Nabulindo said the Ksh.9.9 million project includes construction of modern stalls and laying of cabro works to ease movement of vehicles and commuters.

“My office has already directed occupants in the park to vacate together with their wares to designated areas. Buses and shuttles will operate on the space of the park not being renovated and temporarily at Soko Posta,” he said.
He added that traders and hawkers will also be relocated to Soko Posta on temporary basis.
His remarks follow the elapse of three months notices to occupants on earmarked areas for renovation to vacate the facility.
The notice was first issued on November 25th 2021, lasting 90 days followed by another one on March 28th 2022 and recently April 4th 2022 that elapsed April 6th (today).
The park operates over 50 buses that ply Nairobi, Eldoret, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kakamega and Kampala routes among many others with more than 500 commuters using the facility daily.

The renovation call has been a subject of concern by residents for many years and its completion is expected to end frequent complaints over its dilapidated stature.
The contractor, Soina Investment Limited, promised to complete the project within three months if given necessary support.
