Zachariah Barasa a Bungoma gubernatorial candidate once regarded by a few as one who would only manage a handful of votes has now become a nightmare to his opponents. He not only has cultivated a personal touch with mashinani through his remote visits but also grabbed the opportunity to join one of the most popular parties around. Zachariah who until recently was campaigning without a Party tagged to him found a huge backing from Members of Parliament associated with UDA party namely; Hon. John Waluke ~ Sirisia, Hon. Dan Wanyama ~ Webuye West, Hon. Didmus Barasa ~ Kimilili, Hon. Mwambu Mabonga and Hon. Kapondi ~ Mt. Elgon.
The UDA firebrands have gone out guns blazing campaigning for Barasa at every opportunity with Waluke leading an onslaught on governor Wangamati who he blames for poor leadership. As Barasa prepares for official unveiling by DP Ruto sometime next week followed by a visit by DP in Bungoma, the UDA gubernatorial candidate has changed the political landscape in Bungoma.
Barasa who has restrained himself from attacking his opponents in favor of selling his manifesto has also asked Bungoma residents to elect leaders based on their development record
The move by Bungoma Deputy Governor Charles Ngome who is vying for the Senate seat to join Zachariah Barasa’s campaign team has been of great value to since Ngome is such a top notch orator on top of the fact that he is currently working as Wangamati’s while supporting Barasa. While speaking to Tuuti/Marakaru residents at Nabukhisa area, Ngome who has previously been cautious with his words especially touching on Wangamati did finally declare that Zachariah Barasa is HIS gubernatorial candidate. This declaration was well received by Barasa’s team that was previously uncomfortable with his failure to put it in black and white.
Barasa is set to meet the DP next week for official unveiling as a UDA gubernatorial candidate before hosting the DP in Bungoma. This comes when there seem to be an existence of a coalition agreement between UDA, ANC, FK and TUJIBEBE party

Lusaka; He is termed as a slow-but-sure politician by his supporters since leaving the provincial administration in 2016, is now finding himself in unfamiliar grounds following Zachariah Barasa’s move to join UDA which ultimately minimized chances for the Senate boss. To add salt to injury DAP-K his other option is almost shut as plans are underway to unveil Wangamati within one-weeks’ time.
Barasa’s UDA move also reduced Lusaka’s options and therefore chances of contesting on a UDA ticket leaving the Senate speaker with fewer options and very limited time.
Lusaka who had been giving the Ford Kenya party leader what looked like false hope then by fronting himself as a gubernatorial candidate for the lion party (without putting it in words) while on the other hand the former Bungoma governor was holding “mid-night” meetings with the Chui-Party officials. Sources indicate that Lusaka was negotiating for an endorsement of CS Eugene Wamalwa with the hope of not being subjected to nominations exercise (against Wangamati).
The former Bungoma Governor and now the Senate Speaker likes dropping the line; One cannot hide in a groundnut plantation meaning one’s deeds will always be seen.
My rat in the lion party indicate that Lusaka was scheduled to be unveiled in February by the lion party in February after resigning to officially join politics.
Wangamati; The actuary who dethroned Rt. Hon. Ken Lusaka in the 2017 elections by a narrow margin thanks to Ford Kenya party support led by Party leader Moses Masika Wetangula has over time teamed up with CS Eugene Wamalwa, Hon. Wafula Wamunyinyi and Hon Eseli David to form DAP-K after falling out with the lion party leader. His team brags of a good development record and limotole (cash) as his strength.
If DG Ngome’s utterances are anything to go by; They wanted to first leave Ford Kenya in tatters on their way out
DG Ngome and Roads CECM Collins Mukhongo tactfully joined UDA on 30th Nov 2021 with Ngome already preaching the UDA gospel while Mukhongo briefly engaged in a few activities quietly before going under. My rat in Wangamati’s camp indicate that Mukhongo is no-longer interested in UDA and is set to join DAP-K during Wangamati’s unveiling.
The incumbent governor is believed to have shied away from UDA party for fear of victimization by the government thru EACC and DCI in the name of economic crimes committed by him and his govt. among others.
DAP-K which launched its CHUI HOUSE Nairobi offices on 12th Jan 2022 brags of receiving the entire Ford Kenya Trans Nzoia leaders who recently defected to the Chui party in readiness to Aug elections adding to their SG Dr. Eseli Simiyu and Party Leader Hon. Wafula Wamunyinyi. 10 MPs, 2 governors (Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati) among other leaders graced the launch in what can easily be seen as a show of might and therefore readiness for a bruising battle with the Simba Party.
After unveiling Kakamega Hon. Savula on 22nd Jan 2022, DAP-K is set to unveil two more gubernatorial candidates which had been postponed awaiting promotional items;
