Bungoma prisons is currently engulfed in a sombre mood following the death of one constable who was strangled by a colleague and roommate over a debt.
It all started when Gregory the one who had a debt arrived in their house yesterday Tuesday, March 2, 2021 only to inform his colleague that he was now able to pay the debt after a loan he had applied for had matured. The creditor took an issue with the tone he was being addressed by Gregory and some push n pull ensued at about 8pm but they were separated.
Later at about 02:00hours on 3rd March 2021 they started quarreling again in the presence of the deceased’s wife and another Turkana colleague. The two who stay in the same house at the AP staff quarters then went into a full blown fist fight that saw one strangling his debtor as their Turkana tribesman & colleague and the deceased’s wife watched.
Turkana tradition;
#iKUWEiKUWE has learnt that in Turkana tradition, two fighting men are never separated and that’s why their tribesman left the two to fight it out so as to respect each other. So the man went about chewing miraa as Gregory passed out.
Debt;
The said debt was as a result of a previous fight in which the deceased injured his roommate but the issue was never conclusively addressed by the prison leadership who refused to mediate and instead asked the two to sort it out as “friends/brothers”. Not even a later involvement of Bungoma Police station bore any fruits… They later on their own made an agreement where the deceased was required to pay his colleague
Gregory’s body has been taken to LifeCare as his colleague goes into hiding. The deceased’s wife and the other warder are being questioned by police
