VALID CONCERNS FROM THE MEDICAL FRATERNITY

Yesterday I RECEIVED the following concerns from a member of Bungoma medical fraternity:

  1. Isolation Center in Webuye has been put at health workers residential quarters. Why?
  2. The county claims to be prepared, yet they turned away the patient from district and Webuye who later turned positive
  3. We are not seeing fumigation
  4. Lack of PPEs
  5. Where are the Normal patients?➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

? #iKUWEiKUWE findings:??

BUNGOMA COUNTY HAS NOT UNVEILED #COVID19 RESPONSE TEAMS

? The Ministry has NOT appointed and/or has NOT announced the county, Subcounty, Ward and village response team(s) …

?That’s why you see the POLICE are the ones doing the work of going to pick SUSPECTED #COVID19 patients, escorting them to Bungoma/Webuye and back to their homes WITHOUT a single medic accompanying them.

?TRANSFERRING a SUSPECTED #COVID19 patient is NOT the duty of a POLICEMAN… Ths is a patient NOT a criminal.
▪️Medics using the County govt. ambulances are the ones properly TRAINED and EQUIPPED to handle patients.

?Other counties have put in place these teams but NOT BUNGOMA. Hapa bado tunagawa water tanks za about Kshs. 1,500 to places with NO clean PIPED water?

?We a proper response team in place things of sending away patients would be a thing of the past.

NO FUMIGATION
It’s COMMON knowledge that ZERO fumigation has been done at any of our health facilities and public areas starting with Bungoma County Referral Hospital (BCRH), Webuye County Hospital (WBH).

?BUNGOMA has so far recorded 3 CONFIRMED cases, (1 death {Aga Khan} )
▪️LIFECARE: He tested positive, the patient had moved from Mumias – Lifecare (Bungoma) – BCRH – WCH then back to Lifecare before heading to MBAGATHI where he is recovering.

Lifecare FUMIGATED it’s facility… What about the other areas the patient visited… BCRH, WCH?

▪️ELGON VIEW: Reported A SUSPECTED case that was also rejected by BCRH. Elgon returned the patient home after managing her condition. Fumigated her home as well as their facility… What about other areas the patient could have visited?

▪️The late Eng. Maurice’s brother left Aga Khan and came to their Kimalewa home after spending considerable time with the patient as a caretaker. Nobody from Bungoma County health depart has visited the home and/or made any attempt to organize a possible fumigation

▪️ ALL PUBLIC AREAS SHOULD BE FUMIGATED

? The ministry leadership seem NOT aware that fumigation is key to prevention of Coronavirus spread…. Kama shida ni pesa why not ask Wangamati to release part of the 3billion he has SAVED???? ?

About the ISOLATION WARD being put at the WEBUYE HOSPITAL STAFF QUARTERS:

?On 19th Mar 2020 the CEC Land, Housing and Urban planning Bramuel Murgor held a meeting at KIE – Bungoma to resolve issues surrounding County staff quarters. The Webuye representatives pressed him to EXPLAIN why the ISOLATION WARD was put at their Residential area… The CEC in his response said “AM NOT AWARE” to the astonishment of the irate County employees.

Feeling the heat, the CEC left that meeting before the issue was conclusively resolved. That’s why the isolation ward never operated for a while till Saturday 21.

The facility was forcefully prepared in the same residential house on Saturday 21 Mar 2020 when Senator Wetangula, Hon. Catherine Wambilianga, Hon. Didmus, Hon. Dan Wanyama, Hon Mwambu, Deputy Governor, the County Commissioner among other leaders visited WCH.

?The house has 2 bedrooms, one toilet, one bathroom… How can it accommodate children, women and men at the same time?
▪️The very reason why they turned away patients in the name of asking them to go do self-isolation… Imagine if the Lifecare case was send back home???
▪️The very reason I keep saying we got NO isolation ward… Whatever is there cant/won’t be used in its current status coz even then medic who live/work there still haven’t accepted

▪️Why should they risk lives of doctors, nurses and their families by putting this ward in their midst?
?Am also informed that the HOLDING WARD that’s supposed to be at BCRH as claimed by CO health Mr. Wandili… DOES NOT EXIST!

LACK OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENTs (PPEs)
Personal protective equipment is special equipment you wear to create a barrier between you and germs. This barrier reduces the chance of touching, being exposed to, and spreading germs.

?BUNGOMA County has NOT procured a single unit. The 7 available units were DONATED by the National govt.
▪️They are NOT enough for the job… In fact those 7 PPEs are SHARED and REUSED in each training/demonstration WITHOUT fumigation in between
▪️Lack of ENOUGH PPEs is the reason why BCRH and WCH are not willing to take time with patients…. Refusing to admit those from private health facilities
?OTHERWISE: Yaani out of all these County health facilities how come NONE has SUSPECTED a single coronavirus case? Lack of proper Equipment???

NORMAL PATIENT ADMISSIONs HAVE GONE DOWN

The County health facilities ie BCRH and WCH are experiencing a LOWER turnout of patients. Most definitely they have sort alternative facilities to avoid these otherwise normally congested facilities to avoid crowding.

?Has the county attempted to know how they are fairing on esp those who were on continuous treatment?

▪️Am informed some patients are just sitting at home fearing Corona

?For those patients who were already receiving CONTINUOUS medication before Corona… Has the county done a followup to know if they are still on medication elsewhere or they stopped?

Some patients could have opted to seek medication from their local dispensaries… Has the county equipped those facilities?

This move will greatly reduce POSSIBLE deaths
