The scene of a lady’s lifeless body being offloaded from a Nairobi – Bungoma bus enraged witnesses who wondered why a dead body was being dropped on the road instead of a Police station or Hospital. This prompted a gathering that wanted to pursue the bus for answers but Police who arrived at the scene intervened as they carried the body to Bungoma County morgue.
Speaking to ikuweikuwe.com on phone Jane Wanyonyi a lady who hails from Webuye and was the one who accompanied the ailing Mercy Nekesa from Nairobi said that they boarded a bus from Nairobi to Bungoma after it became apparent that they could not foot her medical bills for an illness doctors could not tell. Mercy stayed alive all the way only for her to take the last breath between Ndengelwa and Sikata on Nairobi – Malaba highway. Jane who also claims to be the late Mercy’s neighbor in Nairobi then asked the bus driver to have them alight at Cereals board Bungoma.
Justus Wanyonyi her father who claims to be a Police officer indicates that it was a family decision to have her treated at Bungoma County Referral hospital due to financial constrains. “We lived with Mercy in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi County and therefore I was with her all the way” said Justus.
Separately, According to Jane; The case was reported at Bungoma Police station in the presence of Mercy’s father Justus Wanyonyi who was waiting to receive his ailing daughter in Bungoma town on arrival.
OCS David Odongo confirms that indeed an OB report was made.
