Police hunt for a woman, others for masterminding a forced Bukusu traditional circumcision

Bungoma Police and Nyumba kumi are hunting four persons who are alleged to have in company of others attempted to traditionally circumcise their neighbor of Luo origin at Ranje village in Kanduyi – Bungoma town. Abdul Oduor aka Junior was frog marched from his house to river Khalaba in Kanduyi Constituency on Wednesday 14^th Aug 2024, smeared with mud in readiness for the knife at Sikata where they intended to circumcise him but he was lucky enough to be rescued by Police who arrived just in time and took him to Bungoma police for temporary safety.

His relative who called the Police to rescue him nevertheless convinced him to get circumcised at the hospital to avoid further pursue and possible future embarrassments following his nude images.

He was therefore circumcised at Bungoma County Referral Hospital.

This comes a few days after another Luo was willingly traditionally circumcised at the same village (Ranje)

According to report at the Chief’s office, those identified as perpetrators of today’s heinous act are:

1. Faith
2. Kemoda
3. Asman
4. Willy

The case was first reported at Bungoma Township Chief Christine’s office although the incident happened in Senior Chief Moses Wanakawa’s backyard.

• Junior who resides in Ranje village (around kwa Davie wa Wechuli) was seen indulging in drugs before deciding he is man enough to face the knife. He was escorted by his colleagues to the river (wa Chefunea) before heading to town via Ranje-KCC road. They were nevertheless stopped by police who laid an ambush at Total (mjini) to “rescue” Junior. Indeed they managed to get him onto the police land cruiser leaving behind smokes of teargas.
• When confronted with the above narrative, Pam a neighbor rubbished it saying Wanjala a local sand harvester can attest the boy was worried that something bad would happen to him but he kept encouraging junior on his safety despite him displaying the fear of the unknown from his former girlfriend.
