The just concluded 2023 KSSSA National Term two Games held in Kakamega County brought together Kenya’s sporting fanatics who landed at the Western region headquarters to witness the rare display of talent by Secondary schools students. One of the notable spectacles was the presence of the political class led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi who doubles as a Kenya Kwanza principal and a Co-Kingpin in the region. Kakamega Governor Fernandez Baraza, CS Ababu Namwamba and Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, MPs and tens of MCAs graced the event… And yes! Western and Nyanza region residents did not disappoint as well as they flocked Bukhungu stadium beyond its capacity in support of their favorite teams.

TransNzoia Governor George Natembeya led a 10 bus trip to Kakamega in support of St. Anthony High School which was played Dagoretti High that had beaten then in the primaries. He before the match made a morale boosting call to the team where he pledged to reward every goal scorer and the team at large if the lifted the cup. This is without a doubt the reason the team did not disappoint.

St. Anthony emerged winners after beating Dagoretti 2:1 who had earlier beaten them 0:1 in the group matches. Aldrine Kibet scored both goals for St. Anthony’s Boys

Kenya Kwanza Western leadership led by Ford Kenya brigade showed its solidarity by attending the function in numbers.

Bungoma leaders on the spot:

In Bungoma: BUNGOMA QUEENS qualified for National league @Nakuru about a week ago, Governor Lusaka who had previously supported the team while enroute to Nakuru for the match took to social media promising to “stand with the team but no single Bungoma leader was in Nakuru in solidarity with the team neither did they receive the team who came back victorious and therefore qualified to join the National league.

While in Kakamega yesterday 12th Aug 2023, Bungoma leaders were purely football fans at the St, Anthony vs Dagoretti match. Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga was the only one who seen visiting journalists to appreciate their effort… Otherwise they never bothered to check on Friends school Kamusinga (basketball), Moi Girls Kamusinga (handball), Namwela (volleyball) and Bukokholo (netball winner) who also had matches on the same day in kakamega.

This conduct by leaders has been been replicated largely by their colleagues in other western counties.

Here are some of the reactions I have picked from my inbox and social media;

Edduh, We got other teams that are struggling like Bungoma super stars who have struggled to climb the ladder over time depending largely on well wishers. the team has nevertheless performed well but these leaders dont see any need to support but they wait for campaigns to run around with afew thounds to dupe votes with pledges.
Here in Bungoma we know no power sweetness, haven’t known what being in power is like. Even when we perform well our own in power see nothing in us like they do in our neighbours. So what’s this 30% for if Bungoma was the game changer at the ballot as Ruto puts it?

~ Fan ~

Please applaud the leaders who made it to KK to give teams moral support. We want to move with our teams like Tranzoia county and Kakamega did, their results are commensurate with their input. Just appeal to the County leadership to take their rightful

Ford Kenya, Kenya kwanza leaders hata kama mnatongoza TransNzoia County msiache mbachao kwa msala upitao… After elections you proudly never failed to mention that Bungoma gave the decider vote to Ruto, now you are abandoning Bungoma for TransNzoia???

#iKUWEiKUWE Corner:

  • Congratulations to Winners and leaders for solidarity display
  • Leaders should purpose to nurture talent here at home na waache these hypocritical traits… Support sports talents here before you pretend to go out there to show us how enthusiastic you are about sporting successes.
  • ‍Kenya Kwanza and County govts should improve sporting facilities to the level of Bukhungu and beyond in every county.
  • Assemblies must prioritize sports policies. Its unacceptable that 10years down the devolution line we still have no policies on some Counties Bungoma being one of them.
  • BUSINESS COMMUNITY: Khetia’s Supermarket , LifeCare, Elgon View, Hopkins, Mama Hersi, M-BIG, Club 430, Lunao, Bagio, Green Hardware, Jay Maharaj, Bungoma Mobiles, banks na hata transport sector, Naomi Purity etc… PLEASE FIND IT NECESSARY TO COME OUT AND SUPPORT LOCAL TALENTS BY SPONSORING WITHIN YOUR SPECIALTY.
