Hello Edduh,
Collins Kilong’i hails from Siboti Ward, Bumula Constituency and was working in Mombasa. His family members are in Mombasa but it’s like hawapelekwi vizuri. We are informed that the truck had no insurance but its out of the Police Station and the driver (conductor) has been granted bail.
Here is Terry’s communication, a cousin to the late and the contact person among those in Mombasa;
SIBOTI MOURNS.
- It is with deep sadness that I announce the sudden demise of our brother Collins Zacharia Kilong’i.
- Collins is reported to have died painfully at his station of Work SPEDAC COMPANY near Kensalt Mombasa Industrial area where he operates from as a security Guard with SGA security firm.
- It was at exactly 0300hrs on Sunday, 4 June 2023 when a truck allegedly driven by a Somali conductor checked in at SPEDAC entrance.
- As his routine, our brother checked details of the truck, vetted the driver (conductor) and returned to usher in the truck by opening the access on the inward.
- The gate metal door inclined on the arranged containers when it opened and knowing that the truck will follow the demarcated lane, Zakaria stood just in between the Container wall and the open gate .
- Being an incompetent driver by virtue of his conductor job, the Somali guy behind the steering wheel failed to control the truck swaying it along the open gate.
- The impact of the truck to the gate milled our brother between the metal gate and the container.
- His cries did not alert the driver but when he realized something to be a miss he halted the vehicle on impact to check only to find Zackaria gasping for breath.
- Members of the supervision team in the security firm SGA were called in at the site.
- They organised for an ambulance that ferried our brother to Coast General Hospital where he succumbed to intense bleeding.
- His body lies lifeless at the Coast General Hospital – Makadara.
- Just been informed that the postmortem to be done on Wednesday, 7th June 6 2023 morning (Coast General Mortuary)
- They will also process the burial permit on Wednesday, 7 June 2023 before heading back to the Company offices in Nyali
- Something fishy: Am informed that the driver has been granted bail. The truck that had no insurance at the time of accident has been released by from the Police station
