The late Elizabeth Nafula had just arrived home on Tuesday, 20 July 2021 from her step-mother’s funeral arrangement at Mayanja where she had spent a night before excused herself to go see her family at Enamanje in preparation for Friday’s burial. On arrival home all was well until 8pm when her husband Mr. Mabonga arrived.
As usual… the husband battered her just like all the other times he came home from a drinking spree prompting a scared neighbor to shout from a distance “… Mabonga lekha khupa omukhasi…” (stop beating your wife…) Mabonga replied by ordering the neighbor out of their business as he continued beating his naked wife outside their house. This prompted the female neighbor to opt out but not before she asked Mabonga’s son who was outside watching helplessly to run and call a Mr. Barasa who is a friend to Mabonga and apparently the only one he listens to.
My rat informs that Barasa nevertheless did not turn up despite the fact that he was reached and informed by the child. Subsequently this was the last time Elizabeth was heard and/or seen alive.
Between Wednesday and Friday morning, Mabonga went about his business as usual including turning at his drinking joint and engaging friends/relatives… the only difference was there were no fights heard/witnessed whenever he returned home in the evening.
On Friday, 23 July 2021 morning a neighbor who wanted to accompany Elizabeth to the burial ceremony visited the home only to notice many flies and a foul smell before raising alarm.
On breaking the door neighbors found the decomposing body of Elizabeth on the bed as Mabonga dressed in his wife’s clothes slept motionless on the floor. The home immediately went into a somber mood as they mourned both husband and wife only for Mabonga to “Miraculously” wake up and tell neighbors to stop making noise for him and clear from the window to allow fresh air into the house.
Police arrived at about 13:00hours to pick the body. On ordering Mabonga into the awaiting police car, he opted to crawl instead of walking.
Mabonga was directly admitted at Bungoma County Referral Hospital on cuffed awaiting medical tests to ascertain his mental status before being arraigned in court.
#iKUWEiKUWE has learnt that;
- Mabonga was previously chased away by Kisioyi Village residents before settling at Enamanje. Those who are in the know claim Mabonga was banished from Kisioyi area due to domestic violence as the community feared he’d kill her
- Mabonga is suspected to have drawn blood from Elizabeth’s corpse for the purposes to showering with it as it is culturally believed that doing so protects one from being haunted by those dead… Some blood-like substance were found on a basin
