COUNTY PROCURES PLANT TO ADDRESS OXYGEN SHORTAGE
Kakamega County Government has procured a new Oxygen plant from France to fix the insufficient Oxygen supply being experienced nationwide. The plant that is currently at the Port of Mombasa awaiting shipment to Kakamega has a production capacity of 1,000 litres of Oxygen per minute and once installed, will supplement the current production of 520L/Min of the essential gas at the County General Hospital, bringing the total number of Oxygen plants in the County to three.
This was announced by H.E the Governor Dr. FCPA Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya during a Covid-19 address to residents and members of the Fourth Estate Monday afternoon at the County Headquarters.
The Governor revealed that Kakamega has a total number of 20 Covid-19 patients in isolation and treatment centres at CGH and Mumias level 4 Hospital and regretted that 19 people in the County have died in a span of 20 days due to Covid-19.
“Despite the negative economic impact this pandemic has brought in our society, we have to strictly observe the stringent measures put in place by the Ministry of Health in order to prevent a further surge of the disease in the hotspot Counties of the Lake Region Economic Bloc,” he advised.
Kakamega County Government staff who fall in the category of non-essential service providers, the Governor added, will with effect from this day be required to work in shifts and embrace virtual meetings.
“I have also had a consultation with the Kakamega County Assembly Speaker Hon. Morris Indakwa Buluma on this subject and we have agreed that the House will hold sittings with a maximum of only one third the total number of the Members as most deliberations remain to be executed virtually and through other digital platforms,” he said.
The Governor was flanked by his Deputy H.E Prof. Philip Museve Kutima. Also present was the CECM for Health Services Dr. Collins Matemba, Hon. Nabii Nabwera, Hon. Habil Nanjendo and CBEF Secretary Rev. William Owuya, among other Government Officers.
