BUNGOMA COUNTY STAFF UP IN ARMS AGAINST A CIRCULAR TO CONTRIBUTE KSHS. 50,000 PER DEPART FOR A FUNERAL

On 15th Oct 2020 Bungoma County govt members of staff received a communication from the County Secretary’s office titled FUNERAL ANNOUNCEMENT dated 14th Oct 2020. In it the Chief Officer in the County Secretary’s office Mr. Chris Simiyu announced the demise of Mrs. Hellen Kibanani the wife of Prof. Charles Ngome, the deputy Governor. Each department was expected to mobilize staff to raise at least 50,000/= for funeral expenses. The contribution was to reach the treasurer by Monday 19th Oct 2020

FLASHBACK; On 14th and 15th October 2019 #iKUWEiKUWE Updates made two articles that address the inequalities in the way Bungoma County govt handles benevolence matters. On one hang they release County vehicles, staff and resources to ensure the burial of executives is high class but when it comes to the “other” staff it’s everyone for oneself. They do not even ensure the Bungoma Benevolence Fund run by Wangamati’s blue eyed boys assists the families of those who subscribe to it.

Picture this;

  1. The late Eric a reinforcement officer died at Bungoma referral hospital but was buried 2 weeks later after the county govt demanded that its postponed to enable them get money from the treasury for that purpose. At the end Waziri Sabwami chipped in from his pocket and at one time asked for a refund for some bills from the amount collected by workers when the bills turned overwhelming for him.

When I raised issues on the way Eric’s burial was being handled, the Director logistics one Simiyu Mutaki ordered my removal from the group before tongue lashing the admins and finally members of the group that had been formed for the purposes of planning Eric’s burial… His statement was full of harsh lies as per the members who send me the screenshot

  1. The Chief Officer Finance Bwana Namulala lost two relatives within two weeks ALL revenue vehicles reg. 052,053,055 and 056 were at his Tongaren and later Ogembo – Kisii homes for the two burials… This was on top of a good number of revenue officers deployed at the home thru the funeral period.

NOTE; The chairman to BBF is Vincent Wekesa who is one of Wangamati’s closest and  trusted security aides on top of being a road’s department driver. Mutaki and Vincent are “brothers-in-crime” who once unleashed terror on a staff who wrote on social media some truths about the BBF inequalities. The dude was beaten senseless inside the Governor’s office.

To this day the County govt has done nothing to assist its own suffering staff who cannot raise a benevolence concerns nor leave BBF for fear of victimization despite the fact that their subscription and monthly contributions are deducted religiously by the county govt… They nevertheless know that their monies are eaten by BBFs officials with life and death protection from the executives…

Imagine asking the same employees to contribute for the same executives who have neglected them for 3 years

“The Executives are NOT members of BBF and the only thing they care about is BBF funds filling their pockets…” says a member who buried her relative but never received any assistance but threats

The issue here is; how come the County govt issues a CIRCULAR to communicate and initiate a fundraiser for a deputy governor’s wife when they act ignorant/unaware when other low grade staff ie reinforcement officers, sweepers, tea girls, drivers etc lose their loved one?

WHY NOT MAKE IT A PRACTICE OF RELEASING SUCH COMMUNICATIONS WHENEVER ANY MEMBER (sweeper or executive) LOSES A CLOSE RELATIVE???

Why not streamline BBF leadership to assist wale wafanyikazi wa chini??

Still, staff have NOT been told how much was contributed by each of the 11 departments led by Governor’s… May those who were treasurers publish lists/amounts for accountability purposes??? Expenditure pia ni muhimu

Hellen Nangekhe, being a state officer (2nd lady) as declared by the CIRCULAR we expect the County govt to bear full costs of her burial, the money collected should be given to family i.e. Kevo and his Sister.
