ABANDONED: 8-YEAR-OLD GIRL NEEDS SKIN GRAFTING, PLEADS FOR MEDICAL FINANCIAL AID

Valary Nasimiyu got severely burnt on the morning of 3/5/2019 when the lantern lamp she was carrying exploded as she moved houses. The class PP2 pupil at Chekalini Primary school – Kakamega was rushed and admitted at Moi Teaching and referral Hospital (MTRH) with 47% burns from 4-5-2019 to 10-1-2020

The total bill at MTRH was Kshs. 1,252,423.88 during the one year stay at Moi Referral;

  • NHIF paid– 637,324.00
  • Balance –   615,099.00
    • The family could only raise and therefore paid Kshs. 20,000 that enabled them discharge her but not before they pledged to pay Kshs. 520 monthly to her NHIF account. A pledge they have failed to fulfil in the last three months

At discharge a skin grafting process was scheduled to be done in August 2020 but lack of finances and of course Covid-19 has made it impossible to realize this

Valary has been visiting Bungoma referral Hospital for check-ups

The Tuuti-A area – Tuuti / Marakaru ward resident whose wounds are getting worse by the day is pleading for medical financial aid of 14,000/= to enable her book an appointment with a surgeon at MTRH.

Evelyne Nakhumicha the 8-year-old’s mum informs #iKUWEiKUWE Updates that a surgeon at MTRH demanded for 14,000/= to book for an appointment for skin grafting but the family has been unable to raise it. She reckons Nasimiyu’s absentee father has abandoned them leaving them to fend for themselves. The family once printed fundraising-cards with a view of collecting enough funds to foot the bill but could only manage 2,000/=

Skin Grafting is needed before end of year 2020

Speaking to #iKUWEiKUWE Updates, Valary’s grandmother, Mrs. Jacinta Nafula Sangura not only called for financial assistance for the booking fee (14,000/=) but transport, surgery, treatment and drugs as well… Her efforts to reach Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati has been futile

Valary lives with her mother at her grandmother’s home
