Speaking to journalists today Wednesday, October 7, 2020 the Chief Officer in charge of Health and Sanitation Mr. Patrick Wandili has come out defending his boss against attacks over the spending of 213 Covid-19 millions the county received from the National government saying… “Out of 213 million, we have utilized about 50 million translating to 25%… We request to be given space and time to deliver on our pledge to the people of Bungoma County”

He wondered why Wangamati’s name is dragged into this spending when he is not an official in the health depart where the said funds are being utilized. “The funds are handled by a committee that’s chaired by the CEC Health Antony Walela and County Health Management team” informed the former teacher

According to the Chief Officer, some of the things that have slowed them down are;

  • Lengthy tendering processes
  • Some suppliers have turned down the LPOs upon award of tender forcing them to start tendering afresh

CEC Health Antony Walela on his part confirmed that indeed the Bungoma County government received the 213 millions are a conditional grant. The funds were to be strictly used for;

  • ISOLATION – Establishment of 300 beds
  • QUARANTINE – For taking care of Covid-19 patients

He insisted that being a conditional grant, the funds were NOT meant for issuance of facemasks to the public. They were used to;

  1. Train medical staff
  2. Purchase of protective equipment
  3. Purchase of ICU Ventilators

He concluded by asking Senator Wetangula to Keep off the health depart
