Today’s Assembly hearing of Governor Wycliffe Wangamati’s impeachment petition was treated to a fair share of drama that saw the committee sittings delayed by about 2 hours as DCI officers drawn from Nairobi area raided, interrupted and sort statements from key people involved in the impeachment petition namely; the Principal Clerk Mr. Tome and the Committee Chair Hon. Majimbo Okumu. They later took the Clerk’s statement before arresting and whisking away the Principal clerk in a black Subaru KCCG 816K to Bungoma Police station where they have booked him awaiting transportation to Nairobi to be arraigned at Kibera Law Courts anytime between tomorrow and Wednesday.

What surprised me upon visiting the CCIOs office at about 14:30 hours I found one of the officers (anakaa mteso) who was busy writing something while chatting with CCIO Ondoro. Upon sitting down I introduced myself and my agenda which was to seek a possible cash bail for Tome as an alternative so that he can appear in Court whenever required. The CCIO and the officer informed me that they are juniors to the one who gave the arrest-order and therefore must wait and get further instructions… Then one of the DCI officer’s phone placed on a seat inform of me rang, I peeped at it only to see a contact saved as “Governors PA Bgm” calling… The officer picked the call and informed the Governor’s PA that he would call back later. A short while after they left to an unknown location leaving Tome behind (possibly to meet the PA)
Tome is accused of writing to the Executive requesting certain documents related to the appointment of the Service Delivery Unit (SDU) and the ‘illegal’ Directorate of Legal and Cabinet affairs. Upon receipt of the document(s) he is said to have handed them over to Nyukuri Barasa who was supposed to do a photocopy for the purposes of using them in his petition and return them but he instead disappeared with them.

Nyukuri’s actions have widely been seen by a section of Assembly employees and MCAs as part of the wider scheme to fix Tome, an assembly staff who has been in the bad books of the executive over time. Its alleged that Nyukuri colluded with the Executive to fix Tome in a way he wouldn’t recover. They allege that Nyukuri must have traded that info for something… something they vowed to reveal soon or later.
Contacted by #iKUWEiKUWE Updates Nyukuri indicated that he indeed confessed to the Police that Tome game him the documents but wishes to put it clear that it wasn’t intentional and not for malice. He will be in the assembly tomorrow morning to table his petition evidence. When asked to share the said document(s) at the centre of these arrests… He said that they were confisticarec together with the bag.
TOME HAS JUST BEEN TRANSPORTED TO NAIROBI
