BUMULA DUMPSITE TARGETED AS KENYA RAILWAYS BEGINS REVIVAL OF ELDORET-MALABA LINE
Early today Monday, August 10, 2020 a contingent of Kenya Railways officials from Eldoret and Kitale visited Bungoma county Railways station with a view of holding a meeting with stakeholders over the revival of the railway line from Eldoret – Malaba. A move that will easy transport within the region.
The KR officials had earlier informed Bungoma County govt. of their intended visit but were surprised to see no single CG official upon arrival. The meeting that was meant to put together stakeholders such as Nzowasco, Kenya Power, public works depart and the County govt was planned in conjunction with the County govt and the County Commissioner’s office did not take place for only 3 people were present when they arrived; Phillip Wanjala, A policeman and Myself.
The meeting was meant to deliberate on the revival roadmap that included repairs, installation of basic amenities like water, power etc… issues that were tackled in the brief meeting that took place.
While at it the General Manager asked where the county officials were… It’s at this moment that he was informed that they were not present. The official proceeded to say that they will nevertheless proceed with their program as planned. Next on their list was the dumpsite, part of which they said was on the railway reserve and possibly that’s why the county officials failed to turn up to avoid embarrassments
Other structures targeted structures include Sharrif’s centre, Bungoma Mortuary… (I will share the full list tomorrow)
KR is keen to clear any illegal structures on its land prior to commencement of the construction. Any structure within 30 meters from the railway line will be brought down but in some cases they will use their beacons to advice on what goes down. Those with authentic leases will be spared.
Reliable sources informs that another meeting convened by the County Commissioner is scheduled to take place tomorrow Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the DCs offices…
