County assemblies are known to host all sorts leaders from level headed ones who understand and live by their terms of reference to the cheap and radarless leaders who don’t think beyond their stomachs.
Bungoma County Assembly has its fair share of these two categories of leaders. Following the collection of 29 signatures to oust the Majority leader Hon. Florence Wekesa, MCA Maeni ward. Several meetings purposed to counter her removal were held but the one that stood out was held at Wangamati’s Ndengelwa home.
The main agenda of late night meeting was to get enough votes to counter the pro-change team. It was at this meeting that a decision was made to induce EACH MCA with Kshs. 5,000 to 7,000 being an increase from 2000 to 3000 previously used to induce members… This signature-purchase venture is meant to get a minimum 19 signatures… enough to earn a speaker’s communication in their favour
Each MCA who accepted to pen a signature and therefore promise to vote against the motion was pre-rewarded 5-7k.
Well, this did not go down well with most of the pro-change MCAs who were approached but refused to be bought. The Wangamati team did not give up they kept knocking doors (as kate as it was), managed to BUY a few MCAs.
Yesternight the governor himself made several UNSUCCESSFUL late night visits one of them being to an MCA living around Nzoia Sugar nuclears and another in Mt. Elgon offering them Kshs. 10,000 each. Sources say one MCA refused to open the gate for Wangamati opting to speak to him across the fence before turning down his offer telling him that her conscience is not for sale.
The governor has 13 signatures so far and is therefore looking for 6 more before tomorrow Tuesday, June 09, 2020 morning to have the speaker communicate in his favour in the afternoon’s communication on the floor of the house.
