There has been a huge public outcry following the publication on Dinah Nyaboke a needy Bungoma DEB primary school KCPE candidate who has opted to repeat after failing to secure a slot in the Bungoma County scholarship program. The girl who scored 401 marks had earlier been selected as a beneficiary but was somehow struck off the list even after some correspondence with the relevant offices in preparation for the launch.
Her mother Priscilla reckoned why the County shortchanged them without notice only to realize of the changes after the County failed to invite her to the launch
Well-wishers turned away by Wangamati
Well-wishers have come thru ever since with Hon. Tim Wanyonyi, Hon. Wamunyinyi, Akothee, Lendrix and Senator Omanga displaying interest in assisting the girl. Sources indicate that upon getting wind of Hon. Tim Wanyonyi’s intended assistance to the girl, Governor Wangamati quickly called the girl’s family pledging to reinstate her back onto the scholarship beneficiary list following what he says is the discovery that they had initially relied on hearsay. He proceeded to discourage Tim’s good gesture same to Nairobi Sen. Omanga’s.
Speaking to ikuweikuwe.com mama Priscilla turned down Wangamati’s offer saying “… We thank Wangamati for wanting to have our daughter back on the scholarship programme but No we will not take up the offer since Lamu governor has already send us Kshs. 53,000/= with Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka others also coming in to assist her join Moi Girls Eldoret”
#iKUWEiKUWE has nevertheless learnt that Wangamati thru Chief Officer Safiya did convince the family to take the offer.
How Dinah Nyaboke was shortchanged (audio)
#iKUWEiKUWE has since learnt that a county operative who doubles as the food-taster for governor Wangamati is responsible for the changes that saw Dinah shortchanged replaced by former Liaison officer the late Grace Namuleyi’s daughter who was previously schooling in a private school paying school fees of about 60,000/=. On reaching for comment Naomi Purity she just laughed it off.

Ranje residents fundraise for a 406-mark scorer
Many more such needy and deserving cases have been left out of the County scholarship such as JIRE WANJALA who hails from Ranje Village having scored 406 in KCPE. According to the West Sang’alo MCA Hon. Godfrey Mukhwana aka Zeth, Jire was selected as a would-be beneficiary but after the launch Ranje residents received information that Jire had not been invited to the launch. They then resolved to step in and cushion the family by fundraising to enable him join Maranda boys.
According to West Sang’alo MCA Hon. Godfrey Mukhwana aka Zeth, Jire was selected as a would-be beneficiary but his father turned it down in favor of Hamburg Foundation. A position Jire’s father disputes saying upon realizing a decision to favor the second best performer after Jire at Ranje Primary had been made, the ward admin recommended Hamburg foundation. The boy was luckily successful landing a scholarship that will see him thru University
Mt. Elgon’s disabled boy with 411 marks misses out (audio)
A disabled Gibson Kibet Ndiema who scored 411 marks also missed out on the County Scholarship even after Wangamati promised to personally see to it that he gets one when the Governor visited Nalondo CBM Special Primary recently. Speaking to iKUWEiKUWE Elizabeth the mother to the frustrated boy reckons that they have applied but were surprised to see the very governor visit Mt. Elgon subcounty leaving out their son in the celebrations. Gibson previously schooled in a school for the disabled where his mother used to sell mboga to pay fees. The family that hails from Kapkateny ward whose MCA is Hon. Joan Kerong wonders how their son will report at Kapsabet High School on 2nd August 2021 as demanded in the calling letter.
“Hatujui vile tutafanya juu tulikuwa tume-apply for Equity Bank, Kenya Education Fund and Bungoma County scholarships,,, Tulikuwa tumetarajia gavana Wangamati kutupea scholarship vile mwenyewe aliahidi ile siku alikuja Nalondo CBM special School mtihani ulipotoka”

#iKUWEiKUWE Corner;
The County Assembly of Bungoma should now demand that Governor Wangamati tables a comprehensive scholarship status report:
a) The entire list of applicants in the county and their application documents
b) The short-list of those interviewed
c) The list of beneficiaries
d) The panel that interviewed the shortlisted/beneficiaries
Well-wishers should come out to fill in the gap
Otherwise the scholarship program as an idea is Nobel and must be supported.
