MZEE EVANS SIMIYU AKA ROBERT CARLOS AKA MASKINI PASSES ON
It is with great sadness that we announce the demise of Mzee Evans Simiyu which occurred on the 14th October 2020 at Bungoma County Referral Hospital following a short illness. Evans was admitted at the facility on Wednesday 14th Oct 2020 at about 8am and was immediately diagnosed with Pneumonia. He nevertheless needed oxygen which was not available till his death at about 2pm
An angry family member says “…were it not for lack of oxygen… Papa would still be alive”
Evans had two nicknames;
- Fellow drinking mates at Hilton Bar and Restaurant – Bungoma his popular drinking joint inform #iKUWEiKUWE Updates that they nicknamed him “Maskini” because of his popular joke while buying patrons a drink. “Pea huyo maskini pombe” he’d joke while buying the drink. Meaning he is buying one a drink since that individual wasn’t able to offer themselves one
- Evans was also a shrewd businessman who owned a fleet of PSV vehicles (Nissan matatus) branded “Roberto Carlos” plying Bungoma – Kakamega – Kisumu road… as usual he was nicknamed so
Education: Mzee Evans started his learning journey at Ndani Primary school – Kakamega before joining Butere High school and finally Kenya School of govt, Nakuru (accounts)
Work: He commenced his working career at Public works, Nairobi before he was transferred to Public works, Nakuru – Public works, Bungoma – Treasury at Bungoma DCs office – Bungoma Prisons where he worked as an accountant till his death
He leaves behind 2 sons and 3 daughters… the most popular one being Hastings Simiyu aka Kings an employee of Bungoma County Government – Lands department
He was a resident of Khalaba Ward – Bungoma
