28,000 tonnes of cheap sugar!!! That is the amount of sugar that Kibos Sugar has imported for repackaging. It will soon be on the market. The surest way to kill the Kenyan farmer, is to import cheap sugar.
Why would a sugar miller import cheap sugar? The motive is to kill the farmer. Let us look at effects the 28,000 tons of sugar that Kibos Sugar has imported is going to cause to the Kenyan Sugarcane farmer;
1. The price of sugarcane is automatically going to reduce by a huge margin
2. The farmer’s cane will not be harvested because Kibos is going to repackage the sugar and sell then why waste time and resources harvesting farmer’s cane!
3. Kibos will not bother to support farmers develop sugarcane because their store is full of imported cheap sugar
4. Farmers will not be paid because their sugarcane will not be harvested
5. Unharvested sugarcane will over mature and get destroyed
6. Employees are at risk of losing their jobs, only those who are going to re-melt and repackage the cheap sugar will be retained.
Repackaging of Imported Sugar
All the above goes against the vision of the President who has been passionate in stabilizing the local sugar sector and ensuring Kenya exports sugar not import.
Kenyans of goodwill especially those who directly or indirectly depend on Kibos Sugar should be concerned. Come out and say no to importation of cheap sugar by Kibos. This amount of sugar is going to be sold for many months before it gets exhausted.
