KENYA COVID-19 FUND BOARD & EQUITY FOUNDATION DONATE PPEs TO BUSIA COUNTY
The Health Committee of the Covid-19 Fund Board today donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to the County Government of Busia.
The equipment consisting of disposable gowns, surgical masks, KN-95 respiratory masks, nitrile gloves, head/shoe covers and gumboots will be used by healthcare workers dealing with Coronavirus patients at the Alupe Treatment and Isolation Centre.
Busia Governor H.E Sospeter Ojaamong who received the donation from the Equity Bank Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dr James Mwangi thanked him and the fund board for the donation which he said will bolster
efforts by the County Government to combat Covid-19.The Governor thanked the staff for their brilliance in managing the cases that were referred to the facility and for protecting themselves.
The Governor told county residents to be warry of the pandemic.
” This disease is spreading like bush fire with the the fourth wave which is imminent being very vicious, ” he said, citing a case where a widow died six hours after burying her husband and her two sons are under intensive care.
Equity MD, Dr Mwangi echoed the Governor’s sentiments that Covid-19 is real, telling Kenyans that that prevention is better than cure and that people should take personal responsibility to protect themselves by observing the Ministry of Health protocol.
The CEO said they have identified 60 mission hospitals in the county including Nangina to benefit from PPEs, urging the County Government to raise its profile to strengthen its preparedness to fight Covid.
The Governor said his government has seconded health staff to the misssion hospital and undertaken renovation, adding that they are dispatching a doctor to the facility to beef up the team.
Dr Mwangi thanked the County Government of Busia for its efficiency in the usage of the PPEs since the start of their partnership 18 months ago.
Deputy Governor, HE Moses Mulomi said Busia and Malaba are critical because of their geographical location, with over 3000 truck drivers and their turnboys crossing the two border points daily, thus making the management of Covid-19 very extensive.
Chief Officer Public Health, Jonathan Ino said Kenya needs to emulate Uganda where truck drivers entering the country must possess covid negative certificate.
Mr Ino revealed that 478 positive cases have been handled at the facility with the total number of deaths standing at 23.
He stated that the number of first dose of covid-19 administered is 10,000 and 4,000 being second dose.
