Bungoma police station today Sunday, August 16, 2020 at 03:00 hours witnessed a rare occurrence at its cells where 11 suspects in police custody staged a daring escape from the cell.

- Simon Wekesa – Assault
- Collins Juma Nyukuri – Assault
- Alex Simiyu Muyekho – Stealing
- Bramwel Barasa – Defilement
- Pascal Kiberenge Namasaka – Impersonation
- Emmanuel Wakoko – Assault
- John Barasa Wekesa – Robbery with violence
- Isaac Wekesa – Stealing
Isaac Wekesa, one of the escapees was caught up with and shot in the leg before being arrested and therefore admitted at Bungoma County Referral Hospital while the rest are still at large
Two of the escapees; Brian Ochieng Onyango and John Wanyonyi are suspects in the killing of the late Cheche a prominent Bungoma businessman who was shot dead by some thugs who stole cash from him.

Mid last year there was such an attempt which was thwarted by hawk eyed police under the leadership of OCS Odongo following a tip-off from a remandee who had witnessed unusual activity inside the cell.

SUBJECT: ESCAPE OF PRISONERS FROM LAWFUL POLICE CUSTODY.
OB 3/16/8/2020 at 0300 HRS.
it’s was reported by No. 109588 PC Joshua Wanga together with No. 67941 Pc Nickson Libole who were both cell sentry and report office personel respectively that they were alarted by the prisoners that some prisoners had escaped from one of the cells. They proceeded to the cells and found a hole on the rear wall of the cells. On further checking, they discovered that eleven prisoners had escaped through the same hole. The said remandee prisoners were as follows; 1. Brian Ochieng Onyango charged with Roberry with violence ,2. John Wanyonyi – Robbery with violence ,3. Clerkson Otieno – Burglary remandee, 4. Simon Wekesa – assault, 5.Collins Juma Nyukuri – assault ,6. Alex Simiyu Muyekho – stealing, 7. Bramwel Barasa – defilement, 8. Pascal Kiberenge Namasaka – impersonation, 9. Emmanuel Wakoko – assault, 10. John Barasa Wekesa – Breaking and stealing and Isaac Wekesa stealing. A combined team from the station and DCI while combing the area cited the escapees running towards a nearby bush at Airstrip area and one Isaac Wekesa was shot on his left thigh and and was recaptured. He was later taken to Bungoma Referral Hospital and admitted in a stable condition. The escapees had cut an angle line metal bar that reinforced the cells door and used the same to dig the hole , A team comprising of SCPC and SCCIO visited the scene.The scene documented by the scene of crime personel and investigation launched. Officers are still on the field pursuing the escapees.Escape Inquiry file no. 2/ 2020 opened.
