3. Isaias Afwerki is the only President Eritrea has ever had. Since Independence from Ethiopia in 1993, Eritrea has never held elections. In 2008, president Afwerki stated in an interview with Al Jazeera that Eritreans will wait for about 40 years before holding an election ??.
