RESOLUTIONS BY WESTERN REGION COUNCIL OF ELDERS OF THE SABAOT, LUHYA COMMUNITIES

We, Elders from the Sabaot and Luhya Communities of Western Kenya Region having met today and held consultations on various issues of vital importance to the unity, development and peaceful co-existence of our communities and all other communities in the Region, hereby resolve as follows:-

That we support the Handshake, BBI and the efforts by H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta and Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Raila Odinga in unifying and transforming our country Kenya, which embraces the spirit of the Mabanga Accord that has seen our communities live together in this Region in peace, love and unity.

That we endorse the resolutions by our 5 Governors and 40 MPs and Senators from our Region made on 29th May 2020 in Kajiado at Mzee Francis Atwoli’s Home, and welcome their decision to work together towards achieving a unity of purpose in realizing the economic transformation of our Counties under the leadership of Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and CS Eugene Wamalwa.

THAT we urge Governor Oparanya and CS Eugene Wamalwa as the senior most leaders from our Region in both levels of Government to reach out and bring together leaders, from all the communities, Parties and Religions in our Counties of Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Kakamega, Busia and Vihiga, to advance the development agenda Regionally and Nationally.

THAT our Region is blessed as the bread basket of Kenya with good soils and rains but the heavy March, April, May long rains have caused havoc to our crops, animals, houses, infrastructure and livelihoods and we urge the Government to give special attention to this Region in the Post Covid 19 and floods recovery strategies to ensure revival of the sugar, maize, cotton industries and ensure permanent solutions like construction of dykes and dams to stop the perennial floods.

THAT we urge all communities living in our Region to co-exist peacefully and resolve any problems affecting them and their neighbours peacefully and in particular the communities that have been clashing along the Nandi/Kakamega border as well as Narok and Nakuru Counties
